I have felt very blessed to have witenessed these beautiful butterfies visiting Hampton for many years monarchs drinking nectar fron Golden Rod flowers in State Park, as fuel for their journey to Mexico
monarch cluster in willow for warmth over night, they are genetically encoded to go back to the same tree when they begin their migration through Hampton Beach every fall. That is why it is so important to keep these trees from being cut down Monarchs live about 6 weeks. However the ones who hatch in the fall are called Methuselah, because they live 6-9 months. They fly to Mexico for the winter,though no one knows how they find it, since they've never been there.
